The Muelleri Butterflyfish has black vertical bands against a silver background, which blends into a rust colouration towards the backside of the fish. The eyespot on the dorsal fin of the fish is used to confuse predators in which way the fish is facing.
It is best housed in large reefs, or in peaceful community aquariums. It should be kept singely, not with similar Butterflyfish, and should not be kept with any stress-inducing fish. Caution should be exercised if housing these fish in a reef aquarium. They may pick on invertebrates, especially anemones and feather dusters. They are an excellent fish when used to control aiptasia.
The Muelleri Butterflyfish is a shy and deliberate feeder that may need a variety of foods offered to it in order to start feeding. Feed a variety of frozen and live foods including; mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or frozen whole cockle.
