The Pineapplefish has robust scales with black margins with the centre of each scale raised much like that on a pineapple.
The Pineapplefish should not be kept with shrimp or fish smaller than itself as they may be eaten. It should also not be housed with aggressive fish as they are slow swimming. They are generally peaceful towards tank mates.
The Pineapplefish is a nocturnal feeder and a carnivorous fish that uses its luminescent spots to hunt in the wild.
The Pineapplefish requires a minimum of a 400 litre aquarium with some open swimming space and plenty of hiding places in the form of caves.
